Police make dent in the 'guns for drugs' trade

April 06, 2021

The St Catherine South Police have intensified efforts to put a dent in the illegal 'guns for drugs' trade that operates between Jamaica and Haiti.

In the most recent instance, four Haitians were apprehended in the Naggo Head in Portmore, St Catherine, on Sunday, April 4.

The police are reporting that so far, the investigation has indicated that the men entered the island illegally and are facilitators in the guns-for-drugs trade.

On Tuesday, April 6 a joint police/military team carried out operations in the Braeton community where over 1000 pound of compressed marijuana was seized.

The St. Catherine South Police says it will continue to target players in the trade.

In the meantime, the police are appealling to anyone that can assist in the investigation to contact the St Catherine North Police at 876-984-2305 and 876-984-4490 or Crime Stop at 311.
