276 COVID cases recorded as eight more Jamaicans die from virus

Eight more Jamaicans have died as a result of the coronavirus, increasing the island's COVID death tally to 669.

Three of the deceased are from Kingston and St Andrew, two men aged 72 and 61, and a 69-year-old woman, two men from Westmoreland aged 96 and 59, two women from St James aged 91, and 42, a 59-year-old man from Westmoreland and an 82-year-old woman from St.Mary.

Meanwhile, of the 1,054 samples tested in the last 24 hours, 276 returned positive results increasing total confirmed cases to 42,119 with 22,268 being active.

Of the new cases, 108 are males and 168 are females, with ages ranging from 34 days to 98 years.

Kingston and St Andrew recorded the most new cases with 92, followed by St Catherine with 59.

Portland with two had the least amount of new infections.

In the meantime, there were 95 more recoveries, pushing the total to 18,785.

Some 425 persons are in hospital with 25 being moderately and 44 critically ill.

Fourteen people are in government quarantine , while 27,480 are quarantined at home.
