264 new COVID cases, 13 more deaths

Jamaica on Thursday recorded 264 new COVID-19 cases from 1,557 samples tested, increasing total confirmed cases to 86,986 with 29,232 being active.

The country's positivity rate is currently 20.1%.

Of the new cases, 153 are women and 111 are men with ages ranging from 53 days to 93 years.

Meanwhile, 13 more Jamaicans have died as a result of COVID-19, pushing the death tally to 2,072. 

The deaths which occurred between September 14 - October 13 include: 

- an 80-year-old woman from Kingston & St. Andrew

- a 55-year-old man from Kingston & St. Andrew

- a 96-year-old man from Kingston & St. Andrew

- an 84-year-old man from Kingston & St. Andrew

- a 49-year-old woman from St. Elizabeth

- a 74-year-old woman from St. Elizabeth

- a 65-year-old woman from St. Elizabeth

- an 87-year-old woman from St. Elizabeth

- an 81-year-old woman from St. Catherine

- a 29-year-old man from St. Catherine

- a 30-year-old woman from St. James

- a 17-year-old man from St. Mary

- a 75-year-old man from St. Thomas

In the meantime, there were 187 more recoveries, bringing that total to 55,082.

Some 393 persons are in hospital with 99 being moderately ill, 40 severley ill and 24 critically ill.
