Two Chinese nationals, a husband and wife, were shot and killed by gunmen who robbed their supermarket in Bellevue district, Southfield, St Elizabeth, on Thursday night.

Up to press time, the police had not released the identities of the deceased. Reports by the Junction police are that about 8 p.m. three men armed with guns travelled to the establishment and held the male Chinese national and other shoppers at gunpoint. The gunmen robbed the establishment of an undetermined sum of money and then demanded additional cash. When their demands were not met, the gunmen opened fire hitting the couple multiple times, before running from the building and escaping in a waiting motor car.

The man died on the spot while his wife was rushed to hospital where she was admitted in serious condition. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.
