Illegal gun seized from district constable
A police constable was taken into custody earlier today after he was found with an illegal firearm during a police search in Seaview Gardens, Kingston.
The police say a team was on patrol in the community of Seaview Gardens when they saw a man seated on a wooden bench along the roadway.
The man reportedly began acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion.
He was searched and a Smith and Wesson .45 calibre pistol loaded with ten bullets was seized.
Further reports say the firearm was retrieved by the constable who made contact with the St Andrew South Operation Support Team, informing them of his discovery.
The constable agreed to meet with the team at the location and was subsequently found in possession of the weapon.
The defendant has since been discharged.
