Buff Bay Minibus operators feeling left out

March 14, 2022

The Transport Authority (TA) has this morning announced that new route licenses for taxi drivers are available for the Port Antonio to Buff Bay route, leaving minibus drivers disgruntled.

The drivers this morning staged a peaceful protest, just one week after taxi men protested the same issue on the opening day of schools.

The Star spoke with Merdina Callum, Corporate Communications Manager at the TA, who confirmed that the minibuses are not being left out, however, research done showed that speed was of utmost importance.

A quality which the taxis would have been better able to exercise.

Fitzroy Ramsey, a minibus driver who operated as spokesperson in this morning’s protest, said that taxi men have been abusing their ability to ply the route, by charging commuters upwards of $300 to and from Port Antonio.

Callum says the TA’s policies stand firm against overcharging commuters.

The current authorised rate for the Port Antonio to Buff Bay route is $200.
