Judge orders man to replace damaged phone

March 16, 2022

Jamal Francis yesterday pleaded guilty before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to malicious destruction of property, after he reportedly damaged his child’s mother’s phone during an altercation.

Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague gave the defendant two days to source the funds to compensate for the claimant’s phone after he threw her phone on the ground during an altercation in January.

The phone is said to be valued at $37,000.

However, he indicated that he recently started a new job and would need time to accumulate the funds.

“From January this incident took place? I don’t know who can go without a phone in these times. Sir, bring the money and is not a matter if he has it, he has to find it,” the judge indicated.

Francis is to return to court on March 17 with $45,000 to replace the phone.
