Hanover police probe extortion link in mass shooting
Head of the Area One police, Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers, said investigators are confident that they will soon nab the cowards who were involved in Wednesday night triple killing in Hanover.
The act of criminality claimed the lives of 55-year-old Michael Smith, a construction worker of Logwood; 37-year-old Mark Austin, a construction worker of Orange Bay; and 43-year-old Omar Mahabee, a businessman of Orange Bay Road. Four other persons were injured.
"As it is now, the police are looking at some strong leads, and whilst we can't say much at this stage, somehow we are confident that we will get to the bottom of this and hold those who are responsible and put them before the court," Chambers stated.
"There are several suspects for which I cannot mention now, and there are three strong investigative leads which are being pursued. But until the investigation reach further, much more cannot be said at this time," he added.
Investigators theorise that the mass shooting, which took place in Santoy district, could be linked to an extortion racket. The sleuths are also looking at whether the incident is linked to the fact that the deceased men were installing surveillance cameras when they were attacked.
