Guard threatens to bomb Canadian High Commission
A security guard threatened to bomb the Canadian High Commission in Kingston if the fees he demanded from his employer weren't paid within 48 hours, the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court heard yesterday.
The guard, Shamari Hibbert, has since been charged with extortion.
Allegations are that on January 3, Hibbert called his manager, via telephone, and attempted to extort $500,000. He allegedly said that he would bomb the Canadian High Commission, where he was assigned, if his demands were not met.
"A di yute a feed di ghetto yute. A two year him nuh get nuh pay from the TTD insurance, so tell [name redacted] and [name redacted] say to wire $500,000 to the yute account," the court heard that Hibbert said.

Later that same day, the accused man contacted the complainant again, this time using another cellphone. He allegedly sent a WhatsApp message the second time around.
"[Name of security company] line up any money for me Plz [name of security company] line up for me ???? 48 hours still a count I hope you remember everything on the call you get, Canadian Embassy bomb first, mek unnu si say me serious," the message read.
Following his first appearance in court yesterday, Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague remanded Hibbert until April 26, when a bail application is to be heard.
He was not required to enter a plea.
