St Ann residents protest poor roads

April 11, 2022

Dozens of St Ann residents this morning blocked several roads between Runaway Bay and Discovery Bay to protest poor road conditions.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kevin Francis said the police were alerted about the demonstrations early this morning and responded.

The blockages were cleared for free passage by motorists not involved in the protest.

Taxi operators say the poor road conditions have existed for several years despite repeated promises from the authorities to effect repairs.

Member of Parliament for North West St Ann Krystal Lee told reporters she was unable to address the protesters in person due to prior commitments but expressed surprise at the protest action.

She also said constant patching has happened over the months as the NWA awaits approval of $300M to resurface sections of the Brown's Town to Runaway Bay road.
