I Love Soca returns

Port Royal Street in downtown Kingston became the ultimate party zone as 'socaphiles' in short shorts and the skimpiest tops sought their musical medicine.

The event was the I Love Soca Cooler Festival. The presold only event, which has attracted thousands of patrons over the past decade promised a night of fete and fun in a safe environment as it returned for a replay on the waterfront. It was the first staging of the event since the Disaster Risk Management Act measures were discontinued.

"We have ensured that from the parking lots to the roadways leading to what we have dubbed our 'Festival Stadium' are well lit, with ample security and police personnel and free shuttles to get our patrons ready to fete," said Andrew Bellamy, managing director of the event.

With its carefully curated soca experience that's seamlessly fused with surprise performances, patrons and their coolers lined the streets from early and didn't have to wait for long to be let into the venue to the sounds of DJs Mindless, Lantern and Cardo working through the different eras of calypso and soca to get the party started.
