Earlier today, residents and taxi operators protested deplorable road conditions in York Town, Clarendon.

They claimed that heavy-duty vehicles transporting material to Foga Road where a bridge is being constructed are responsible for the damage done to the roads.

The work is being undertaken by the National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC).

Stakeholders have accused the agency of failing to address the situation.

One protester, who declared she is a teacher, complained that sections of the road require too much skill to navigate, making traversing the road a difficulty.

Uphell Purcell, councillor for the York Town division in Clarendon South Western says he understands the frustration of the protesters.

“They need to put someone to monitor the road to know when it is getting too bad, and grade it. So they can know how to fix it,” said councillor Purcell.

The construction of the bridge is a part of work being done on the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000.

The stakeholders are contending that quarrying activities in the area are also culpable of damage to roads in the Clarendon South Western constituency.
