For Fabian Beepot, 68, her nephew Saiga Beepot, 31, was way more than just a taxi driver; he was a hero to his 10-year-old daughter.

But last Saturday, Saiga’s body was discovered about 6:05 p.m. in a gully along Newland Bridge, on Gem Road in Kingston 13. The well-known taxi operator, formerly of a Kingston 11 address, was found with his hands bound behind his back with a white cloth. He had gunshot wounds to the face and chest.

Beepot says that Saiga’s untimely death has left a gaping hole inside his daughter’s heart and she fears that it may never heal.

“Him carry har a school from she a two-year-old, every day. Every single day. Yuh always see him and har once him nah work. A she me a worry ‘bout because, from him dead, she tek out him clothes dem and a wear it and a baay bawl she a bawl,” said the grieving aunt. When the news team visited the family home yesterday, the little one was indeed sporting one of her dad’s shirts.

Beepot added that Saiga was a model father who was loved by everyone, including his co-workers. She said she could not think of a reason why anyone would want to hurt her nephew.

“Him get nuff awards and best father for the year at her school. Him tek really good care of her enuh. He was a very nice, genuine taxi man and everyone loved him. I don’t know of him having any problems with anyone because he is always helping people and giving his best for someone else. Him grow good. Every step mi step, him deh side a me as a young boy growing up,” she said.

When contacted for a comment on the matter, Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, who is the commanding officer for the Kingston Western Police Division, stated that the police are probing several leads in their investigations.

“We can’t say much more at this stage because we are identifying some things that we would want to check before we speak on them. However, we have some leads looking into and a possible motive,” he said.
