Two days before he succumbed to injuries in a road crash, one of Constable Donald Carr's siblings sent him a voice note detailing an ominous dream she had about him.

"In the dream, he came home and when he came home he said that he got a promotion but he came with all his stuff. So I said, 'How come yuh get promotion and yuh come with all your stuff? Mi no understand that'," recalled a tearful Betty-Ann Carr. "When I look I thought he had a garbage bag. I asked him if that was all the stuff he had from Kingston. He went and point at a table and said it was for him and his friend, but he was going to divide it in half and take his half and leave the other half for his friend."

Carr, 36, died last Saturday after a vehicle he was driving overturned and crashed into a ravine along the North-South highway in Golden Grove, St Ann about 8:30 p.m. He was taken to the St Ann's Bay Hospital hours later and eventually succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. A female passenger is still in hospital. Betty-Ann, one of Carr's four siblings, said that her brother initially worked in the health sector, first at the health ministry and then at the Porus Health Clinic. But he always wanted to be a cop. When he first applied, he was told that he was too short.

"He was so devastated, he came home and started to do stretches because he wanted to gain more height. The second time he went in he got through and from there it was just all about his work," she said. Betty-Ann said that Carr was well-loved by his colleagues, particularly members of the operational support team at the St Andrew South Police Division.

Betty-Ann said that her brother, who attended Porus High School in Manchester, was the best father to his two daughters.

"He supported and looked after his children. His 11-year-old recently migrated overseas but they had the perfect relationship. She is in disbelief right now because even on Saturday she was saying her daddy was not dead and that he would soon call her. He would give his life for his children," she said. "We are very close-knit as siblings. To be honest, I am short for words right now. I am talking to you and my entire body is shaking. We are not doing good at all."

There was an uproar following allegations that the vehicle which took Carr and his passenger to hospital faced significant delays at the toll booths. However, the Toll Authority said that preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle had to pay at one toll booth but was given free access to exit at another, once the situation was explained to the attendant. A formal report is pending.
