$26 million traffic tickets windfall
Errant motorists have been contributing generously to the government's revenue as more than $26 million has been collected since the roll-out of the electronic traffic ticketing system in January.
A report written by Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson, which was laid in Parliament yesterday, indicates that the police issued 20,392 e-tickets in the first four months of the year. He said that 7,678 were paid, and this resulted in total revenue of $26, 220,000.
The electronic traffic ticketing system allows the police to issue traffic tickets more efficiently to members of the public who commit breaches of the Road Traffic Act. Tickets are printed on the location and information updated to the system in real time.
