The police are currently investigating the murder of 42-year-old businesswoman Melissa Clarke-Wright who was fatally shot in the Battersea district in Clarendon last night.

According to the police, about 7:30 p.m., Wright was at home with family members when armed men kicked open the door and entered her home.

The robbers then entered the room where the family members had gathered and ordered everyone to leave the room, except for Wright.

It is reported that the robbers went on to demand money from the businesswoman, before shooting her several times.

The police were alerted, and she was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The family members escaped unhurt

Meanwhile, People's National Party caretaker Richard Azan condemned the killing.

“One of the major things I believe is that we have lost love in our country and respect for life and the culture of how we treat each other, we have to find a way to correct it,” said Azan.

“It is sad. Just a couple of months ago another murder was committed couple chains away where a garden fork was used to kill somebody,” he said.

Azan bemoaned that murders are now taking place in peaceful communities.
