Denham Town says goodbye to man killed by soldier

Janet Haye has vowed to do everything she can to get justice for her son, Horaine Glenn, who was shot dead in April by a soldier during a confrontation in his yard in Denham Town, Kingston.

The grieving mother appeared pale as she paid final respects to Glenn at his funeral held at the New Life Open Bible Church along Spanish Town Road in the parish.

Haye, 56, maintained that her son was killed in cold blood despite reports that the 32-year-old held on to a soldier's weapon before he was shot.

Mourners, including Glenn's 13-year-old son, Ovaine, came out in their numbers but very few were able to hold their tears as they came to realise it would be their final sight of him.

At one stage, persons cried uncontrollably as Luther Vandross' Dance With My Father and Boys Il Men's End of the Road played through the speakers in the background. Similarly, eight-year-old Hovacia, one of Glenn's cousins with whom he shared a close bond, broke down as she attempted to sing her tributary item.

Officiating minister Naverdean Henry used the opportunity to encourage Glenn's family and friends to keep his memories alive and celebrate the life he lived, rather to remain glum by his tragic and untimely demise.

Meanwhile, Haye told THE STAR that she is determined to get justice for her late son whom she said had aspirations to work overseas as a chef. She said that she has been in contact with the Independent Commission of Investigations, the body set up to investigate alleged abuses by agents of the State.

"I have now given them all my statements but they say that they are still collecting more statements, so it will take some time. I am satisfied with how things are going at the moment, but this is not something that l will ever let go until mi get justice because Horaine no trouble nobody fi dem kill him like that," she said.
