Man slaps girlfriend for bothering him while driving

A Corporate Area man confessed to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court late last week that he slapped his now ex-girlfriend in her face because she almost caused him to crash his car. "I was driving and, while driving, she was poking me in my side. It caused me to shift the steering," the defendant Demalie Kelly explained to the court. It was reported by the complainant that Kelly hit her to the right side of her face and choked her. Kelly pleaded guilty to assaulting a female before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque. However, he contends that he did not choke the complainant.

"Is she still your girlfriend? Any idea of her whereabouts?" the judge asked. "No. No, Your Honour, we don't talk since the incident," Kelly informed the court. The matter was adjourned until September 12, as a subpoena was issued for the complainant's attendance at court on the next occasion.
