Man killed while trying to stop robbery

A Good Samaritan was shot and killed by unknown assailants as he attempted to prevent a robbery along Tom Redcam Drive in St Andrew in the wee hours of Saturday morning.

The police's Corporate Communications Unit confirmed that the deceased is 21-year-old Clarendon man Orthaniel Thomas who would have celebrated his birthday this Friday. The police stated that Thomas was among a group of persons standing on the roadway when two men on a motorcycle attempted to rob a member of the group, who were reportedly coming from an entertainment event. The police say that Thomas reportedly tried to defend the other person and was shot during the process. Thomas was rushed to the hospital by a police team but was pronounced dead. The matter is being investigated by the St Andrew Central Police Division.
