Distraught mother seeks closure in son’s brutal killing

Pam Lawson, a distraught mother whose son Terrence Campbell was gunned down near their home in Greater Portmore, St Catherine, is lashing out at a blogger she says has been spreading fake news about him.

The 42-year-old, whose death was partially caught on camera, was accused by a blogger of being a violence producer who died with an illegal firearm in his possession. Lawson, however, rubbished those claims stating that the father of three was a hard-working higgler and chef.

"Take down the video because nothing goes like that. The blogger said he died with a gun and when I went to the station the police said he had nothing on him. When he got shot, a taxi driver took him straight to the station and the police took him to the hospital. My son is a big, responsible man who worked hard for his honest bread. I am asking YouTube to take it down. They are tarnishing his name," she said.

For the past two decades Campbell had been her business partner at the Brown's Town Market in St Ann, Dawson told THE STAR, adding that he remained in Portmore last Friday to prepare for a catering event the following day.

"He has been selling at the market with me for little over 20 years but he is also a chef and does catering for events. He had an event the Saturday and that was the reason he was not with me. Meat and everything was seasoned up already. It's very hard being at the market alone now but I just have to be strong" she said.

As she mourns the death of her son, Lawson is seeking closure, questioning the reason he was killed.

"He was very jovial. Everybody liked him and that is why I want to know the motive behind the killing. A lot of them hang out one place and a man just come out and kill him. They said it's a white car that drive up and a man approach and asked for him and somebody point him out. If yuh watch the video closely you can see," she said.

"Right now I can't eat and I am just living by my doctor's medication. My son has three children and they are not taking it good. They have broken down," Lawson added.
