Dad allegedly hits 11-y-o child with bottle
A 41-year-old Corporate Area man who is accused of hitting his 11-year-old daughter in the eye with a bottle is to return to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on October 6.
The complainant reported that on May 6, she was in her father's room, with her stepmother and two stepsisters talking about her mother's side of the family. It is alleged that her father did not like the conversation and took up a bottle of baby oil and threw it at the complainant, hitting her in the left eye. This caused a wound, which bled, and her father tied a handkerchief around the injured eye.
On July 18, the complainant was leaving home for school and said to her father, "Daddy mi a go school," but he did not respond. She later saw him outside with a makeshift belt in his hand, and he shouted, "Hey, gal! Come yah!"
She ran to a relative's house nearby but her father followed and began to punch and kick her in the back, sides and, on the feet.
The father, it is further alleged, used the belt to hit his daughter on her head and left hand multiple times.
The accused pleaded not guilty on Wednesday when he appeared before Parish Judge Jacqueline Wilcott.
Prosecutors informed the court that the case file was not complete as the medical certificate speaking to the extent of the child's injuries was outstanding. The matter was then adjourned.
