Homeless man accused of beating street person
A homeless man accused of beating another homeless person was remanded when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish court on Wednesday.
The court heard that on July 31 at 10 a.m., the complainant was on Church Street, downtown Kingston, in the vicinity of the Poor Relief Shelter talking to a friend, when the accused Horace King walked over to him.
It is alleged that King accosted him and demanded to know "Why you a video di man?" The complainant replied, "Me nah video him, me just a say me wah put him pon Facebook fi see if me can get help fi him."
"Stop video the man," King ordered, before he took up the man's walking stick and started beating him all over the body. It was only after he started crying out for 'murder' that King walked away, the complainant told the court.
It was shared that the complainant's hands, right foot and left shoulder were swollen from the beating and he attended the Kingston Public Hospital to receive treatment.
However, King denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm before Parish Judge Jacqueline Wilcott.
"They say I assault someone but I never assault nobody. I never beat nobody," King stressed.
"Well you can go to trial and we deal with it that way. You need to get a lawyer Sir, are you going to get a lawyer?" the judge asked.
King replied that he would need assistance to retain the services of a lawyer. He was then remanded.
