A suspect is in custody following the murder of a British national in Bogue Hill, St James, on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Sean Patterson, otherwise called 'Allan', a personal trainer of West London in England. Reports by the police are that about 11:45 a.m., Patterson was standing on the pool deck at the One Love Villa when he was allegedly approached by a man who brandished a handgun. It is further alleged that the gunman chased Patterson into the yard, and after catching up with him, shot him multiple times. The police were summoned and upon their arrival Patterson was discovered lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and chest. The scene was processed and Patterson was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A close friend of the deceased told THE STAR that Patterson arrived in the island on December 29. THE STAR also learned that Patterson and a friend attended an event on the north coast on Sunday, and later met up with the suspect. The three of them reportedly journeyed to Montego Bay.

Patterson is the first person to be murdered in St James in 2023. The parish had 198 murders in 2022.
