Scores of residents of a section of the Chester Castle community in Hanover think they have found gold following the discovery of coloured rocks.

Ralston Cole, who occupies the land in the area known as Top Land, said that a house is being constructed on the property for his niece, and that the discovery was made shortly after they used heavy equipment to dig a pit.

"Them start to dig the pit Tuesday and after about 10 feet down, them see an unusual soil coming from out of the pit," Cole said. "The unusual soil carry some gold-looking thing. Is a mineral, so people from all over come now and say it look like gold. So them start to dig out the earth and find the things them what looking like gold.'

On Sunday, persons were seen digging away at the house site hoping to cash in on what they think could be a big pay day. But Cole said they are still not sure what the shiny objects are, it has not being truly confirmed to be gold, but they are now calling on the relevant authorities to come in and make an assessment of the mineral.

"We want the energy and mining, or the transport and mining [minister] to come in to get the soil tested, also the shine substance which looks like gold," he said.

Despite this, dozens of persons, some travelling from miles away, were digging away, loading buckets of the shiny rock. Young men could be heard shouting out that they were rich, while others were already making plans of ways to better their lives if the rocks and minerals are indeed gold.
