The Hanover police have launched a manhunt for the relative of a mason who was shot and killed during a dispute in Forest district last Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Dwight 'Briggy' Levy. Reports by the Ramble police are that Levy was shot after the suspect ordered him to remove his cow off his property. Relatives told THE STAR that shortly after 4 p.m., Levy went to move his cow when he was attacked by the relative. Levy's common-law-wife, Gloria Watt, was in disbelief that she will not be seeing him again.

"Oh God, him don't trouble people, him go a work, him come back, him is a hard-working young man and I miss him a lot. So I don't think I go find anybody else who treat me like him do," she said. Watt said she advised Levy not to move the cow.

"But him seh no, him have to go look fi the cow and mi must gwan round go cook meanwhile," she said. Watt said that while she was cooking dinner she kept looking out for him, but he never showed.

"Then mi next door neighbour call mi and seh him a call mi long time fi tell mi that Dwight dead," she said. "Same time mi dash weh the bucket out a mi hand, an' mi run go round deh and go see him lay down dead."

A police source said that the suspect eluded them by escaping in bushes on Tuesday, during an operation which was carried out to apprehend him.

Levy is the first person to be killed in Hanover since the start of the year, which ended 2022 with 44 murders.
