Mayor of Kingston, Senator Delroy Williams, says he is saddened to hear of the passing of 12-year-old Liah Hugh, and is pledging his full support to the grieving family.

Hugh, who is a student of the Kingston Senior High School, perished in a fire at her home along Gilstress Street in Rollington Town, Kingston on Tuesday afternoon.

"We got the got the call, an employee's child died at home from a fire. The mother works with us at the municipality, so we are here offering support," Williams said.

The STAR understands Hugh was at home by herself when the fire started.

Family members and residents are gathered outside the house appearing to be in a state of shock and disbelief.

"We can't imagine a mother losing a child much less to a fire at home. We are all sad and here giving whatsoever support we can, the police and the fire department is here doing the sets of investigation," the Mayor said.

The child's father, Anthony Hugh, said he was at home preparing lunch when he received the disturbing phone call about his daughter's demise.
