The mother of nine-year-old Nikita Noel, who was murdered outside her home in Kew district, Lucea, Hanover, on February 1, is calling for the death penalty for the man charged with the crime.

On Thursday, the Area One police charged Omar Green with murder. He is scheduled to appear before the Lucea Parish Court in Hanover on March 14. Green is reportedly an ex-boyfriend of Nikita's mother Nordia Edwards.

"Yes I learnt that he has been charged, and I believe that justice has been served, but that does not satisfy my needs," the 38-year-old mother stated. "I believe he should get the death penalty, and maybe after I have heard that he is dead, then I will feel satisfied," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.

Nikita was reported missing by her mother after she did not return home from school at Esher Primary School. A search was launched to find her. Nikita's body was later discovered metres from her home. Investigators had hinted that the nine-year-old was raped and then strangled to death, and following investigation, Green was taken into custody.

Following her death, Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang, described the gruesome act as a premeditated murder, and called for the accused to be charged with capital murder.

The family of the slain infant has announced that her funeral will be held this Saturday, starting at 11 a.m., at the Jockey Factory compound in Lucea, Hanover.
