Businessman flees police on motorcycle, later caught with illegal firearm

A businessman from Frome in Westmoreland was slapped with several charges after he attempted to flee members of the police on his motorcycle, but was later caught and found with an illegal firearm and several rounds of ammunition.

Thirty-three-year-old Alkeino Maragh was charged with Possession of Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition.

According to the Savanna-la-Mar Police, about 2:29 p.m. on Tuesday, lawmen were on patrol in the area, when Maragh was seen driving a motorcycle and was signalled to stop.

He disobeyed the officers and sped off into a yard.

He was pursued and was seen removing - one Taurus 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing eleven 9mm rounds from his waistband.

He was accosted and later charged. A court date for him is being finalised.
