Armed men who attempted to rob an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) belonging to the National Commercial Bank (NCB) left the crime scene empty-handed after they were unable to get any cash from it.

The incident occurred sometime after 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Reliance Shopping Centre in Mandeville, Manchester.

It is reported that several men armed with guns converged on the shopping centre and tied up the security guards and janitors.

One security guard was reportedly beaten and was subsequently taken  to the hospital for treatment.

This is second attempt by criminals, in the past three weeks, to rob the location.

According to Crime Officer for the parish Dennis Simpson, security guards on the mall were attacked by armed men approximately two to three weeks ago.

He said a struggle ensued and  the firearm of one of them criminals was discharged in the process.

No one was hurt in the process .

Simpson said there will be increased patrols in the area as  special investigations into the possible perpetrators continue.

"Any assistance we can get from security companies that monitor these ATMs  as it relates to coverage, periodical visits and so on we will appreciate" he said
