Court places two on probation for spending money mistakenly sent to their accounts

March 22, 2023

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Mar 21, CMC – A judge Tuesday placed two men on a year probation each after they pleaded guilty to spending $1.7 million that had mistakenly been sent to their account from a financial institution.

Justice Natralie Creary-Dixon said despite their repayment to Readi Cash Finance, the actions of 21-year-old Letina Amberslie and 24-year-old Dean Broderick, both labourers, were motivated by greed and dishonesty and they should have known better given their ages.

The two pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit larceny and simple larceny when they appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court.

Attorney Camesha Harrison, in her submission, told the court that her clients have learned from their mistakes and were remorseful.

The court heard that on October 5, 2022, the two men inadvertently received the money in their account from the company. They failed to contact the loan company and used the funds.

However, they were contacted by the company to repay the funds, the police were contacted and both were taken in custody.
