Serial rapist sentenced to 31 years hard labour

Chaddane Harris, the serial rapist who plead guilty to 21 counts of sexual offences was today sentenced to 31 years of hard labour in the St Catherine Circuit Court.

He was sentenced to 31 years for rape, 25 years for grievous sexual assault, 20 years for wounding with intent, 15 years for burglary and five years imprisonment for simple larceny.

The sentences are to run concurrently, therefore Harris will serve 31 years imprisonment.

Justice Bertram Morrison handed down the sentence after he told the accused that the aggravated circumstances outweighed the mitigating circumstances. 

"These are the rampaging horrors that you unleashed onto the unsuspected females. You invaded their privacy and savage and ravage them," the judge said.   

He then ordered Harris to serve the sentences.

It was revealed  at the sentencing that one of his victims was an amputee and another a senior citizen.

The court was told that the accused had three previous convictions  for house breaking and larceny.

The accused plead guilty to nine counts of burglary, six counts of rape, four counts of grievous sexual assault, one count of wounding with intent and one simple larceny, in April 2022, after the crown presented a DNA report.

There were numerous adjournment of his being sentence.

Facts are that between years 2018 to 2019 Harris who moonlighted as a taxi operator committed the criminal acts against.

His lawyer, Vincent Wellesley had asked that his client be the beneficiary of a reduction since he plead guilty, but Crown Counsel Judy-Ann Edwards asked the judge to "Kindly give him a sentence which will protect the community, which were under siege when he was cartilage."
