Cops take illegal guns off the street

A team of officers assigned to the St Catherine North Police Division seized one firearm and five rounds of ammunition during an operation on Cumberland Road, Spanish Town, on Thursday.

One man was taken into custody in relation to this seizure. Reports are that about 1:55 p.m., lawmen were in the area when a premises which was occupied by a man was searched. During the search, one .44 magnum revolver containing five .44 rounds of ammunition was seized by the police during the incident. The man was subsequently taken into custody, however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigation.

In the Kingston Western Police Division, a team of officers assigned seized one firearm on Harris Street, Trench Town, on Thursday. Reports are that about 12:05 p.m., a police team was on mobile patrol in the area and observed a Toyota Wish motor car obstructing traffic. On seeing the offence, the police team made an attempt to stop the driver of the vehicle. However, the vehicle stopped and the passer ran from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was accosted and searched and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, one Glock 40 pistol with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition was in the glove compartment. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
