Armed robber shot, injured by off-duty soldier

An attempted robbery at a supermarket in Montego Bay, St James ended badly for the would-be robber, as he was shot and injured by an off-duty Jamaica Defence Force soldier during the incident. 

It is reported that about 8:40 p.m., the gunman entered the Tigers Supermarket along St James Street in Montego Bay, and held the operators at gunpoint.

He was challenged by the off duty solider, and was shot and injured during an exchange of gunfire. The police were alerted, and upon arrival an illegal firearm was seized from the accused.

He who was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was treated and admitted under police guard.
