Security issue forces school closures in Trinidad

April 28, 2023

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Classes at several schools across Trinidad and Tobago were dismissed early today due to security concerns.

Teachers and students were sent home as law enforcement investigates the issue.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and the National Security Minister, Fitzgerald Hinds, have condemned the action of those who would seek to undermine the safety and security of students and teachers.

Similar sentiments were expressed by the Ministry of Education and the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association.

“The Ministry of Education strongly condemns these reckless actions which destabilise our nation's schools and interrupt the education of our students. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact the TTPS forthwith,” the ministry added.
