Warmington clashes with PNP caretaker in Portland
Jamaicans all across the island have been abuzz following the heated exchange of words between government minister Everald Warmington, and Peoples National Party (PNP) caretaker Colin Bell yesterday.
The incident occurred in the Fellowship division in Eastern Portland, where the minister attempted to tour Rio Grande Valley area with member of parliament, Annmarie Vaz.
Warmington was upset with Bell's presence during the tour, and told the caretaker candidate that he does not tour with any caretaker candidate or councillor.
“A caretaker is not recognised in the constitution. You don’t follow my tour. Caretakers are not recognised in the constitution of Jamaica. I don’t tour with councillor caretakers regardless of their party," Warmington told Bell.
Bell hit back by stating that not only is he a member of parliament aspirant, but that he is a citizen of Jamaica, who simply wanted to know what is happening and that he has an interest in what goes on the Fellowship division.
However, Warmington countered by stating that Bell should keep his interest at his yard.
The Fellowship division is without an elected representative following the passing of its former councillor Irvin ‘Louie’ Brown, who died after contracting COVID-19 in 2021.
