Cops charged with rape of teen girl

Two policemen have been charged with rape following a 2013 incident in St James involving a then 16-year-old girl.

The cops were assigned to the St James Division at the time of the incident which is alleged to have taken place on May 28, 2013. The complainant reported the incident more than two years later, doing so on April 7, 2015.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit of the police force, the accused cops responded to an assignment where the teen was allegedly sexually assaulted. She was later taken to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), where she made a report.

The case file was prepared and referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who ruled that the cops be charged.

Both men were charged following an interview in the presence of their attorneys on Tuesday, May 2.

Commenting on the development, the Police High Command said the investigative bodies should be commended for their professionalism. The matter was investigated by CISOCA, the JCF's Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, and the Independent Commission of Investigations.
