The pilot of the small plane which crashed in St Mary earlier today died from injuries received while being treated at a Kingston hospital.

The other occupant was reportedly shaken up, but is recovering well.

The downed air craft was reportedly spotted shortly after 11:00 a.m. by residents, who assisted with the search and rescue mission in the hilly interior of Unity, near Hamstead in Port Maria, St. Mary.

Initial reports had earlier suggested that the small plane went down in Highgate, which is somewhat close to the actual area where the wreckage was found.

So far investigators have theorised that the air craft may have developed engine trouble, which led to the crash.

It is not yet known where the small plane was heading or where it was coming, as investigators are still trying to gather more information.

A team of investigators are now at the location processing the scene.
