JDF service member drowns during training

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has confirmed that a service member drowned during training at the National Stadium Pool on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Private Jerome McCatty. According to the JDF, McCatty was found unresponsive in the swimming pool and was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies for medical attention. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In a media release, the JDF offered its "sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones" of McCatty, and said it was seeking to provide "all possible support during this time of bereavement".
