Man shot, killed by police in Westmoreland

Investigations are under way into the shooting death of a man believed to be of unsound mind at a bar near Bethel Town in Westmoreland, on Monday.

It is reported that the man was shot by a policeman after he allegedly attacked and stabbed the cop's colleague. 

The deceased has been identified as Dwayne Clarke, also of a Bethel Town address.

According to the police, about 5:45 p.m., Clarke and another man got involved in a dispute inside a bar, when the police were called to quell the dispute.

On reaching the location one, of the cops was in the process of reprimanding Clarke, when he allegedly attacked him with a stool.

The policeman fell to the ground and Clarke brandished a knife which he used to stab him in his face and chest, before he was fatally shot by the cop's colleague.

Director of Complaints at the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) , Errol Chattoo, said they are aware of the incident and are now carrying out an investigation.
