Suspected case of arson at Linstead Market leaves vendors without goods

Two vendors from the Linstead Market in St Catherine lost a considerable amount of goods following a suspected case of arson which gutted their stalls.

"When I reach here this morning, I realised that everything was burnt out, mi lose everything," one vendor said.

 

According to police reports, about 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a large fire was observed  coming from the market.

The police and fire department were alerted and the fire was extinguished. The estimated losses is still being quantified.

Councillor Herbert Garriques of the Linstead Municipal division, said the situation is very sad.

"This is a severe situation for the vendors,who can hardly make ends meet. I will be making representation for some assistance,but it will take some time," he said. 

The Linstead  police have launched an investigation in the matter.
