Kamesha Morgan has never experienced what it means to get justice. In the last 14 years, she has lost her father and three brothers to violence. Her father, Everton Morgan, was stabbed to death in 2010. Although a man was arrested for his murder, he was eventually set free and witnesses failed to come forward.

A year earlier, in 2009, brother Marlon was shot and killed by gunmen. His killers were never arrested.

Then in 2017, another brother, Shawn, died by the bullet. Kamesha said he had mental issues and was killed by the police. That matter, she said, was buried with Shawn.

Fast-forward to 2023 and Kamesha and her family are again in mourning. This time it is for Erick Morgan, 25, who was shot and killed, allegedly by an off-duty policeman along Olympic Way, Kingston 11, on May 30.

"No justice was served out of those three killings, as everything just die. We need some justice for Erick," Kamesha told THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday.

"Mi don't know who fi turn to or where to go," added Kamesha, whose son has been behind bars for a gun-related offence.

She is convinced that shoddy investigative work has denied her family justice for the killings that took place between 2009 and 2017. Despite the bitter taste in her mouth, she is hoping that the wheels of justice can turn in her family's favour this time around.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) said it has already commenced its probe into the incident. The entity, in a media release, said no weapon was reported as recovered from the deceased. It said that the policeman at the centre of the matter has been issued with the requisite notice for him to provide a statement to investigators.

A total 48 persons have been shot and killed in incidents involving members of the security forces since the start of the year. INDECOM said 12 fatal shooting incidents took place in May.
