Fire ravishes section of market in Spanish Town

Emergency responders are currently on the ground in Spanish Town, St Catherine, were a fire of unknown origins destroyed several small goods shops along Cumberland Avenue this morning. 

According to a member of the St Catherine Fire Brigade, they were summoned to the scene about 4:30 a.m. and were successful in ousting the fire.  

Cooling down exercise is now being undertaken.

Dennis Robotham, president of the St Catherine Chamber of Commerce was on the scene. He told the STAR that an assessment of the fire damage will be done to determine the level of destruction. 

He said from his  perspective about 15 shops have been damaged.
