The Barnett Street police in Montego Bay, St James, are now investigating the circumstances which led to the death of a man who was shot and killed and his body set ablaze by his attackers on Deans Lane on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Tony Allen, otherwise called 'Tony', a Rastafarian believed to be in his late 60s, and hails from New Road in Cambridge, also in St James.

Reports by the police are that about 3 a.m., men armed with M-16 rifles drove to a section of Railway Lane in downtown Montego Bay, and then walked into the yard along Deans Lane, which is close to the Barnett Street Police Station. The men cornered Allen, who was outside in the yard, and opened gunfire hitting him more than 15 times, before setting his body on fire with the use of a Molotov bomb. The men then escaped in a waiting Toyota Voxy bus.

Investigators from Barnett Street and Freeport police stations visited the scene, and upon arrival, Allen's burnt body was discovered lying face down in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wound. The police processed the scene, where they removed a number of spent shells. The body was later removed to the morgue for post-mortem.
