BOJ probing alleged issue with new banknotes
Following a now viral video which shows an alleged issue with one of the new banknotes, the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) has indicated the claims are being investigated.
“If anyone else has this experience, they can come down to the bank to have the banknote tested and replaced if it is deemed genuine,” added the central bank.
The video showcases what appears to be one of the new banknotes with a few of the distinctive features missing. The woman in the video questioned how the note became damaged.
"Me wah ask if a me purse rub it out, or a suh me get it...Bank of Jamaica, wah gwan fi the shiny part a dah $1000 yah," the woman said.
“We have reached out to conduct an investigation into the matter,” BOJ said in response to the post.
