The family of a United Kingdom man who died while on vacation at a hotel in St Ann is accusing emergency personnel of handling the situation poorly.

According to the New York Post, the family believes that 53-year-old Timothy Southern would be alive had be received proper help.

Southern and his family were at the Royal Decameron Club Caribbean in St Ann on vacation.

It is reported that Southern suffered an episode after consuming an excessive amount of alcohol.

He was reportedly hanging out with two Canadian women who were celebrating a birthday and who invited him to the bar to attempt drinking all 21 cocktails on the menu.

According to the newspaper, Southern consumed 12 cocktails and returned to his room where he started to experience discomfort.

“He was on his back choking. I put him in the recovery position and screamed for an ambulance. He was making a gurgling sound. As soon as he was in the recovery position, he vomited. I was shouting his name with no response,” one of his relatives reportedly told authorities.

“When the nurse arrived, I said had an ambulance been called and she said ‘no.’ I thought she would take over. But that was not the case. I noticed she was starting to lose temperature,” the relative was quoted as saying.

A pathologist in Kingston reportedly said the man’s cause of death was “acute gastroenteritis due to alcohol consumption.”

His family is adamant that the response crew is partially to blame for his death.
