St James man on lottery-scamming rap

Detectives assigned to the Lottery Scam Task Force arrested and charged a man in St James for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act following a series of operations in the parish on Monday.

Charged with possession of identity information is 29-year-old Marklando Lamey, of Valley Heights, Green Pond, in St James.

The police said Lamey was found at a premises in Cornwall Courts, Montego Bay, during an operation. The lawmen further said that an onsite analysis of his cellular phone revealed several files with identity information of persons residing overseas. This led detectives to Lamey's residence in Valley Heights, where documents populated with names, addresses and telephone numbers of persons residing overseas were reportedly found inside a dresser drawer.

He was subsequently arrested and charged.

Woman's body found on football field

The decomposing body of a female was found on Windward Road, Kingston 2, yesterday.

The Kingston East police said the body was discovered about 8:30 a.m., by a passer-by on a playing field in the area. The body is of dark complexion, about 160 centimetres (5 feet 3 inches) long, appears to be in its late 40s to early 50s, and has a low-cut hairstyle. It was clad in a red blouse with yellow-and-black patterns.

The police have appealed to anyone with information that can assist them in identifying the body, to contact the Elletson Road police at 876-839-6875, police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.

'Roots' hit with murder charge

Twenty-three-year-old Keino Smith, otherwise called 'Roots', of Logwood Park Avenue, Kingston 8, was arrested and charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon.

The charges are in relation to the April 2022 killing of 39-year-old Christopher Andrew at Constant Spring Terrace in St Andrew.

According to the police, Smith engaged the services of Andrew to take him to a location. On his arrival, three men, including Smith, attempted to rob him, during which he was shot in the upper body. As a result of his injuries he sped off and crashed into a ditch. The police were summoned and on their arrival, Andrew was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Smith was arrested on June 24 during a police operation. He was charged based on an eyewitness statement after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

His court date is being finalised.

Teenage girl arrested for illegal gun

Two men and a teenage girl have been charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition following the seizure of a firearm and ammunition on St John's Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Monday

Those charged are Tassieo Hutchinson, otherwise called 'Theo', a 36-year-old mechanic of St John's Road, St Catherine; Jesse McLaren, 19-year-old carpenter of Olympic Way, Kingston 11; and a 16-year-old girl of Longville Park, Clarendon.

Reports are that about 6 p.m., the JamaicaEye team made contact with the St Catherine North Patrol, giving information on a suspected vehicle. The vehicle - a Toyota Axio motor car -- was intercepted along St John's Road in the parish with Hutchinson, McLaren and the teenage girl aboard.

The occupants and vehicle were searched and one Glock 9mm pistol with two magazines and 19 9mm cartridges were found inside the vehicle.

The three were subsequently arrested and charged.

MoBay teen on gun charge

A 17-year-old is among three males who were arrested and charged following a firearm and ammunition seizure on Strand Street, Montego Bay, St James, last Friday.

Charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition are 22-year-old Clive Lawson, otherwise called 'Greedy', of Catherine Mount, Montego Bay; 50-year-old Richard Kirlew, otherwise called 'Trooper', a taxi operator of Clarke Street, Mount Salem; and the 17-year-old boy.

Reports from the Montego Bay Police are that about 6:30 p.m., Lawson was seen acting in a manner that aroused the suspicion of the police. He proceeded to enter a taxi, after which the vehicle was stopped and searched by the police. The search yielded a single-action Browning 9mm pistol along with nine 9mm rounds of ammunition. All three persons were taken into custody.

They were charged on Monday, June 26, following a question-and-answer session with their respective attorneys.
