Cashier avoids prison after repaying money
A cashier at a local juice factory was warned by a parish judge to follow the path of honesty, after she confessed to stealing $6,800 from her employer.
"You have paid the sums, continue on this path. Let it not happen again Madam," Parish Judge Leighton Morris stressed.
The defendant pleaded guilty to larceny as a servant in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, following an incident at the factory on May 28.
Last Thursday, when the woman stood in the prisoner's dock, she indicated that she preferred repaying the sums instead of proceeding to trial. She compensated the complainant $7,000.
"Sir, you have been repaid. Let it stay here in the court, do not carry [it] outside the courtroom. Do not hold no grudges and do not talk about it to anyone. Leave it here," the presiding judge told both parties.
The woman was admonished and discharged from the court.
