The St James police have launched an investigation into the murder of two men believed to be goat thieves in Adelphi on Thursday morning.

According to police reports, explosions were heard coming from a section of the community some time after 5 a.m. Residents stumbled upon the bodies of the two unidentified men about two hours later.

One of the men was lying along a dirt road with gunshot and chop wounds, while the other man was discovered sitting around the steering wheel of a Toyota Noah vehicle with several gunshot wounds.

A number of live goats were also found in the back of the Toyota Noah. It is believed they were lead there by the men.

A farmer in the community told the STAR a neighbourhood watch had to be formed because men fitting the description of the two deceased had been travelling around and stealing cattle.
