Fighting siblings end up in court

September 14, 2023

A squabble between siblings has been referred to restorative justice by Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque.

"Why unnu can't live in peace? Is it one thing in particular or is it ongoing tension?" the judge asked the siblings.

"It is ongoing tension," the defendant Ramona Motley responded, after admitting to attempting to stab her 17-year-old brother. Motley pleaded guilty to assault at common law in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday.

"No this nuh look good at all," the senior jurist said.

According to Motley's recollection of the incident, the complainant chopped her in her forehead, and as a result, she picked up a knife to stab him. Motley and her brother were previously before the Corporate Area Family Court and were referred to counselling.

Acting on those recommendations, Judge Cole-Montaque referred the matter to restorative justice. Motley is to return to court on November 7.
