Good Samaritan injured while stopping fight
A Corporate Area woman who intervened in a domestic dispute between her neighbour and his girlfriend was left nursing injuries when the man started to assault her.
It was shared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Wednesday that the defendant, Roy Douglas, was seen beating his girlfriend at their shop when the complainant, who knows both parties, decided to intervene to stop Douglas from assaulting the woman. During the intervention, Douglas, the court heard, pushed the complainant into some stacked crates of liquor and started hitting her all over her body.
Douglas was subsequently charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious destruction of property. He pleaded guilty to the offences. The complainant indicated to Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque that she is seeking $50,000 for the injuries she sustained and the damage to her cell phone as a result of the melee. Douglas agreed and paid the monies in court.
Cole-Montaque treated the matter as court mediated and Douglas was admonished and discharged from criminal proceedings.
